5 Benefits of Building a Drive Under Home

5 Benefits of Building a Drive Under Home

These unique and thoughtfully designed floorplans incorporate everything you would see in a non-drive under model but with a couple special features that we think you’ll love coming home to.

Maximizing Square Footage. The beauty of a drive under model is that the main floor gains all of the space usually dedicated to the garage. You gain about 400 more square feet on your main level, giving you more liveable space for that kids playroom you’ve always wanted, a large dining room table for bigger family gatherings or whatever flex space you’ve been dreaming about. Added bonus? Your basement development costs decrease significantly.

Open Concept With A View. As you gain more square footage on the main floor, it allows you to open up the space even more, taking open concept to the next level. You’ll notice how much extra space you have and that you can keep an eye on what’s happening in another room on the main floor. Plus, these lots typically have a great view from the front of the home where your great room or dining room/kitchen would be and on the upper level where your master bedroom or bonus room would be, depending on the model.

Efficient Kitchens. With the additional square footage these models gain on the main floor, we’re able to incorporate a spacious galley kitchen. Galley kitchens are great as everything is easily accessible, they offer plenty of storage and it’s easy to divide them into multiple working areas for cooking and baking. Plus, they’re really quick to clean.

Extra Natural Light. We all love our natural light; can you imagine having more beaming into your home? Eliminating the garage from the main floor gives you the opportunity to have windows on all 4 sides of the home rather then the usual 3.

Further From The Street. Safety and privacy is always top of mind when you are looking for a new home. With a drive under model having a raised main floor, you can check these two items off your list. And a bonus would be less noise from the street echoing into your home.

Family man and senior manager of our design and drafting team Cory Hirsekorn says his favourite drive under home is the Crawford II, currently available in The Ridge at Sage Meadows. “The split stairs from the garage to the foyer to the main floor offer great site lines, taking your mind off going up and down stairs from the garage. And I like the separation the model offers between the common areas and sleeping corridors, which works really great for young families.”

You’ll find these hillside homes in the family-friendly NW communities of Symons Gate and The Ridge at Sage Meadows. Book a new home consultation to find out more about calling one of these unique models home.
